I have just seen two films with central characters
who were cowards, who "didn't come forward" or "stand up" to devastating effect on other
people over a couple of generations..Kiterunner and Atonement. And sadly this point of "cowardice" will be lost on many.
I am thankful I saw the film with two principled strong people as well, both of whom have stood up for the right and good in their lives,.
Robert Thurman, fresh from Bhutan, delighted and entertained generous guests throughout the auction, interjected by a smiling Petra Nemcova who,as an add on to certain auction items, was keen to auction off a baked strudel for anyone caring to pay. Robert Thurman's extremely stunning "Uma' even took the microphone trying to talk up a "guest spot" in David O' Russells new film.It sold for over USD 20 000 .
A luncheon with Robert ,Uma Thurman at the Four Seasons sold for over USD 20 000 dollars.Ah all in the name of a good cause.
It was a funny, warm wonderful evening with a stirring performance by the young guys in the music and dance troop from the Tibetan community in Queens. Nice to see some great people around in this City and cultures being kept alive.Visit www.TibetHouse.org
The "art" to a great space is how you fill it,or not fill it. Milk Studios was pumping last night for the Russell Young exhibit Horsepower. It was one of the most lively and enjoyable openings I have been to in New York. It was a time to catch up with old friends including the artist himself.
The show, presented by Vanina Holasek Gallery will be on view from 27th November until December 10th.
In the bright and vivid Horsepower collection the images take up whole walls of color and vivacity that echo at times in strident contrast with each other. The works illustrate a strong dialogue between Wild West cowboys and motorcycle rebels. In this series Young constructs images that easily captivate the realm of contemporary mass culture.

ANTHONY WILDING.; A Gallant and Generous Sportsman and a Brave Gentleman.

The war has exacted an appallingly heavy toll among the best and bravest athletes of the British Empire, but I believe none who will be more sincerely regretted in this country can be found in that ever-increasing roll of honor than the late Anthony Wilding. [ END OF FIRST PARAGRAPH ]
I decided, last night, I want the fairytale.
I deserve it.I have lived an independent great life and now I want the fairytale.
And that is what a guy is going to have to come in with. The fairytale.
I am sick of these men in NYC with all these excuses for one reason or other, they can or can't or will or won't or whatever it is about anything.
I deserve more,I deserve better.
I've got my life together, at any given point, why can't they?
Hey I've got my life together spiritually, emotionally and physically-I know what's important and how to structure things..so why havent these guys got there yet.
I don't give excuses every five minutes. "The Dow's up,the Dow's down, its raining, the sun is shining, my car doesn't work,my car does work,my clients are in town,my clients aren't in town,my kid is here,my kid isn't here, I lost it in the divorce,I didn't lose it in the divorce, the deals going through, the deal isn't going through, I did do that,I didn't do that..."" Either way it's an excuse.
and sure there are more girls than guys in NYC but still,at the end of the day, thats no excuse for laziness, shoddy behavior or excuses from men either. Actions speak louder than words.
Hey dudes...this is really simple....you either want to figure out stuff with someone or you don't.
I don't give excuse every five minutes..I get on with it.
My life is great on my own.I've worked hard, I'm clean cut, I have no baggage, my life is good, fluid..for a guy to make me pay attention in any way physically and emotionally..he's going to have to come in with the fairytale.
I deserve it.I deserve that.Nothing less. Ive worked hard.
CREEM - a magazine name synonymous with the days of rock in roll in the seventies and eighties, alternative punk culture and virtually every other bravura rock culture, has come of age.
It is now branded, fully marketable and having book celebration and launch parties at hip boutiques like John Varvatos on Spring St.
CREEM screams Blondie, Aerosmith, Ramones, Mick Jagger, Sex Pistols and about every piece of rock n roll dirt and attitude you can get your nails into.
VARVATOS screams clean lines, sleek, modern, stylish, and hip clothing for men. Mmmmm. But you know what ? It worked.
The party consisted of about 500 boys wearing every style of denim a pretty boy could lay his hands on. Throw in some vodka on the rocks, the presence of legendary Creem Editors Robert Matheu and Brian J Bowe,
music that rocks, a pleasant staff, and you have got yourself a party. Now all we need are the actual rock stars themselves.
Rock n Roll and John Varvatos - common theme ?- well, I guess they ARE BOTH "well made".
Last time I was photographed at a Varavatos Store was at a benefit in the LA store.Picture in Variety Magazine 2003 at this link

Well, I guess it had to happen.I am being pirated, bootlegged, listed as rare and being sold in the UK all up for 46.96 POUNDS.I had to start the paperwork late tonight,to rectify this and take whatever actions I am advised to fix this problem. It's now 2.17am .
Nice thought .I am finding ways to pay my rent, my mother is ill and miles away, I am still in physical therapy recovering from a painful injury , and some crooks are bootlegging and pirating my film and selling it as a RARE item for twice the price available on Amazon.com in USA and ten times the price available in cinemas in USA. Hell, I must move to the UK!
I myself may be RARE breed (lol :) but I do believe in fair prices to consumers, supporters, audience, fans. The film is not yet released in the UK but PAL versions can be bought direct from Australian distributor as listed on the official website and sent to the UK in the meantime. So UK buyers beware of anything else out there in the UK.. NTSC versions are of course available on Amazon.com, and buddhawild.com

Last night I went to the debut of a new narrative feature film called Holly. I am glad I saw it.I am not going to review it as that is not the purpose of this blog as readers are well aware. But, I am going to suggest people to see it, as I asked people to see Buddha Wild.
I felt good about seeing Holly, and satisfied that another film proves you can make socially conscious ,culturally and time relevant films and that there are backers willing to back such films.
I feel good about asking you to spend money to go and see Holly..as I feel good about asking you to spend money to see or buy Buddha Wild.I know for a fact, and proven fact, both films will give you insight and greater understanding into different subjects, but will hopefully compel you to greater good.
Asia has many faces..and whereas my film Buddha Wild shows some of the upside and is undoubtedly happy in tone Holly shows an issue faced in Asia and an issue of global and far reaching concern -" child prostitution" .
Both films(Buddha Wild a joyful feature doc, and Holly a Narrative feature - both played/playing in cinemas) - sensitively touch on each others themes in some of their subtext.
Buddha Wild gently questions the role of women and their place in Buddhist -Asian society and Holly gently touches on the Buddhist and/or Asian cultural belief in reincarnation and the notion of "whether one is good in this life or past life" and the effect that can have.By watching both films you would get a fairly complete sense and understanding of Asia and its culture,or a definately a far more complete one, than is offered on current Cinema and TV.
In creative terms, neither are flawless Hollywood scale productions and in both cases , neither Director made that choice creatively when the films were being made. Big glossy Hollywood productions would not have served these films. Both these films are intimate and allow you to get close up into a very real sense of Asian culture and life..so close you can almost taste it.
Holly is now playing in select cinemas on both coasts. The cast is headed by the young "Thuy Nguyen" .There is a saying in Hollywood ,"don't act opposite kids or animals you get upstaged every time" True here too.
The film was Directed by Guy Moshe and Produced by Guy Jacobsen , Adi Ezroni, Nava Levin and Guy Moshe. Written by both the "Guys" . Additional cast included actor Udo Kier. I think I may have done a film with Udo years ago or have met him,or hired him or something - but as usual, a consistently good European actor-even if cast in the more menacing role this time round. Though the performances were mixed in parts, overall I applaud each and every one of the actors for taking roles in this movie and braving filming in Asia on a topical and highly sensitive subject.I also applaud the choice of using local actors who did a fine job.
.Both films stay with you after you leave the cinema.
Holly is definately worth a look. And while you are checking out "Holly" as well ,you may wish to check out www.redlightchildren.org
